Your life is not a game...

Your life is not a game...

June 26, 2023

Perhaps you are of a generation that played the Game of Life.  Created in 1860 by Milton Bradley, it was a very popular parlor game.  Naturally it has changed throughout the decades to adapt to shifts in cultural values, but the basics remain: the progress from young adulthood through retirement with all the other milestones in between, neatly encompassed on 10.51 x 10.51 inches of colorful card board.

If only it were so simple.

Most everyone would agree that life is rarely “simple”.  It can be at times perplexing, tragic, logic defying, frustrating, serendipitous.   Forces beyond your control will rudely insert themselves into your otherwise orderly existence.

What to do?

Consider planning, specifically financial planning.  When you do this, you can plan for the things you want (children, a college education for your children, the purchase of a house, a comfortable retirement) and prepare for things you don’t want (the unexpected death of a spouse or partner, the inability to work, a long-term care event).

Be forewarned, this is not a one and done sort of exercise.  Your financial plan is a road map but your life is going to have detours, pot holes and traffic jams. Your plan will be a work in progress that adapts as your life evolves and the Universe throws curve balls at you. (Duck!)

If you do nothing, you may find yourself in a place where you really didn’t want to be.

Be proactive.  Engage a Certified Financial Planner, such as myself, to help you map out the future you want for yourself and your family.

Your life is a journey that you can navigate to the destinations of your choice.
